A tragedy shook the city of Lambaré, in the metropolitan region of Asunción. A woman killed her own 7-year-old son and then took her own life. Before committing the act, she posted a message on Instagram saying she was tired of not getting a response to reports that the boy was a victim of systematic sexual abuse by his biological father.
Prosecutor Amelia Bernal, of the Lambaré Penal Unit, reported that the complaint was filed on December 9, 2024. On that occasion, the child was taken to a forensic clinic, where the doctor ruled out signs of physical violence. The investigation continued with a psychological interview, but the minor was hesitant and could not detail the alleged abuse. The mother herself fell into contradictions during her testimony.
The day after the complaint, the woman had already tried to throw herself and her son in front of a vehicle and later climbed onto a roof threatening to jump. The case was reported to the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Codeni), which rescued the boy and handed him over to a relative. New interviews were scheduled, but no one brought the child. The boy's aunt stated that he never spoke to her about abuse.
The Public Prosecutor's Office clarified that it was never possible to confirm the sexual abuse: the medical examination ruled out physical injuries and signs of violence. The prosecution emphasized that, despite the gravity of the outcome, the original complaint had no forensic support.
