The Special School No. 2 John F. Kennedy, in Asunción, received a donation of 500 books last week as part of the third edition of the Formando Lectores project, promoted by digital bank ueno. The institution serves children and young people with disabilities, many of whom come from other schools to receive complementary pedagogical support.
“This is the first time we have received a donation of reading materials,” said principal María Stella Villalba de Lovera, highlighting that the books will be integrated into the MEC curriculum. “We are somewhat of a reference in inclusive education,” she added.
Among the benefited students is Alejandro Salinas, from the 5th grade at María Felicidad School, who has been attending John F. Kennedy for three years to reinforce learning. “I really like to read, especially adventure books,” the boy said. Another student, Sofía Valentina Sanabria, also in the 5th grade, began speaking and reading after attending the special school. Her mother, Sara Aquino, commented: “This donation will help a lot, because my daughter is learning a lot here. This library will be a great help for the children.”
Rossana Peña, representative of the Corporate Social Responsibility Directorate of the MEC, emphasized that the materials “are always welcome, because we are not only reaching institutions, but spaces that support students with specific needs.”
The Formando Lectores project was launched in 2024 as support for the MEC’s National Reading, Writing, and Orality Program Ñe’êry. Each selected school receives a collection of 500 titles chosen with pedagogical criteria defined by the ministry. The third stage began on April 29, with the presence of the Minister of Education, Luis Ramírez, at the National School of Commerce No. 1 Alfonso B. Campos.
