Paraguay's Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare is implementing a comprehensive health operation for the World Rally Championship (WRC), which will take place in Itapúa from August 27 to 30, 2026. The plan includes activating an integrated care network with 42 fixed posts, 44 basic and high-complexity ambulances, five mobile clinics, and about 500 health professionals strategically positioned along the competition route.
Itapúa General Hospital, the main referral center in the southern region, is central to the preparations. Under the leadership of its director, Dr. Juan María Martínez, and with supervision from the WRC Health Committee, the hospital has undergone a detailed verification of medication stocks, supplies, equipment, and emergency protocols. The goal is to ensure enhanced operational capacity to respond to any incidents during the event.
In addition to ground infrastructure, the operation includes a referral system for critical patients, involving air support and access to specialized hospitals. The initiative aims to protect not only competitors and technical teams but also the expected public, tourists, and communities located in rally areas.
The WRC Paraguay 2026 is one of the largest international sporting events hosted by the country this year and is expected to attract thousands of people to the Itapúa department. Coordination between the ministry, the regional hospital, and the event committee reflects an effort of early planning to ensure safety and efficient medical response during the four-day competition.
