An early-morning crash in San Lorenzo left a Kia Sorento overturned after the driver lost control and struck a tree on Avenida Manuel Ortiz Guerrero, according to a report from Comisaría 1ª Central. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene before police arrived, prompting an ongoing search.
Witnesses, including resident Marco Domínguez, said the man—estimated to be 40–45 years old—had visible facial injuries and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. “He had blood on his face,” Domínguez told El Nacional. The driver reportedly asked repeatedly whether he had hit or killed anyone; after being told there were no other victims, he ignored pleas to stay and walked away toward central San Lorenzo.
Neighbors helped extricate the man from the wreckage and even returned his wallet and cell phone before he left. Police arrived five to eight minutes later, but the suspect had already disappeared. Officer Gabriel Benítez confirmed the driver was conscious after the crash and left on foot.
Authorities are now analyzing footage from closed-circuit cameras in the area to identify the fugitive. The Kia Sorento is registered to an elderly person, but it remains unclear whether that individual was driving at the time of the accident. The vehicle sustained severe damage, and part of the avenue was temporarily blocked.
