Photobook Rescues Visual Memory of the Former Hospital de Clínicas in Asunción

Photographer Teresita Noemí González launches 'Hospital de Caridad', a photobook documenting daily life, change, and transformation of the former Hospital de Clínicas between 2007 and 2014, with support from FONDEC.

Photographer Teresita Noemí González presents this Tuesday (May 19) at 11 a.m. at the Cultural Center of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Asunción (FCM-UNA) her first photobook, titled Hospital de Caridad. The work brings together images captured between 2007 and 2014 that document the routine, change, and transformation of the former Hospital de Clínicas, a landmark of Paraguayan public health.

The project, supported by the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONDEC), covers from the hospital's daily operation to the move completed in 2012, passing through the period of temporary abandonment of the building and its subsequent conversion into the current cultural center. Admission is free.

The presentation will be led by photographers Javier Medina Verdolini and Jorge Sáenz, references in national photography, who will comment on the documentary and artistic value of the work. In addition to public circulation, the photobook will be donated to institutions such as the Cultural Center of FCM-UNA, the Medical Student Center, the Manzana de la Rivera Library, and the National Archive, aiming to bring the record closer to students, researchers, and citizens.

The event takes place at the FCM-UNA Cultural Center “Prof. Dr. Salvador Addario”, located on Dr. Montero and Dr. Mazzei avenues.
