The Hospital Nacional de Itauguá (HNI), one of the main reference centers of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPyBS), released the service report for April 2026. The numbers highlight the high demand and operational capacity of the unit to serve patients from across the country who require high-complexity care.
According to the official report, between April 1 and 30, 28,027 medical consultations were performed. Of this total, 20,900 were specialized outpatient consultations without the need for hospitalization, covering critical areas such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, and orthopedics. The emergency department, which operates 24 hours a day, recorded 7,127 emergency visits during the period.
In addition to consultations, the HNI performed more than 17,000 imaging exams, including CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds. The unit also performed 1,000 high-complexity surgeries, many of them on patients who were on the waiting list. The surgical marathon held over a weekend, with 47 procedures, helped reduce the waiting time for elective surgeries.
The data reinforce the strategic role of the hospital in Paraguay's public health network, especially for cases requiring infrastructure and specialized staff. The institution remains one of the pillars of the country's health system, absorbing a significant portion of the demand for medium- and high-complexity care.
