The Public Prosecutor's Office Observatory released a report that outlines the profile of family violence victims in Paraguay, based on a sample of 80 cases from 2024 and 80 from 2025, totaling 9,792 complaints only in the specialized units of Asunción. The study, prepared by the institution's Statistics Department, points out that eight out of ten victims are women.
Of the complaints analyzed, 90% had at least one victim, while 10% recorded two or more. The most affected age group is 30 to 44 years old, corresponding to 37% of victims, followed by young people aged 18 to 29 (31%). The report highlights that these are mostly young women, including students, workers, and mothers.
Regarding the type of violence, half of the cases involve physical attacks combined with psychological and verbal violence. Another 26% refer exclusively to psychological and verbal violence, such as insults, threats, and intimidation. Isolated physical attacks represent 21% of cases, including injuries with fists, bladed weapons, objects, and even nails and teeth.
The domestic environment is the main setting: 88% of episodes occurred in homes, and in 70% of cases the aggressor and victim lived in the same place. Only 7% of incidents happened in public streets, and the rest in vehicles, workplaces, or by phone.
Intimate partners — spouses or cohabitants — lead the list of reported aggressors, followed by ex-partners, children, siblings, and mothers. The predominant age group among aggressors is 30 to 44 years (45%), followed by 18 to 29 years (34%).
The report also reveals that the highest concentration of complaints occurs in the morning, afternoon, and early evening periods, with 5,407 records. Weekends show the highest numbers: 1,873 complaints on Sundays and 1,653 on Saturdays, while Mondays total 1,380 cases.
