PILAR — The Ñeembucú Sanitary Consortium began on Tuesday replacing Essap's old drinking water pipes in downtown Pilar under the Coastal Defense Phase B project. The works, concentrated on 14 de Mayo Street between Antequera and Governor Irala, involve replacing pipes installed more than four decades ago.
Engineer Marcela García explained that the goal is to modernize the distribution system and prevent future problems caused by wear on the old pipes. The interventions were planned to minimize traffic impact and ensure continuity of drinking water service for residents and businesses in the area.
The consortium, formed by Benito Roggio e Hijos S.A., Los Trigales S.A., and Constructora Heisecke S.A., is also in charge of complementary urban and sanitary infrastructure works, including construction of a storm drainage system and sewage network, as well as a modern effluent treatment plant, considered essential for improving environmental and sanitary conditions in the departmental capital.
Meanwhile, Coastal Defense Phase C, carried out by the Ñeembucú Coastal Consortium, composed of the same companies, is advancing. This phase includes urban transformations such as linear parks, bike lanes, and coastal avenues, aiming to boost tourism, recreation, and urban development in Pilar.
The interventions are part of an ambitious coastal protection and modernization plan that seeks to make the city more resilient to flooding and provide better infrastructure for the population.
