Asunción City Hall initiated 2,602 sanction proceedings against owners of properties in abandonment or with vacant lots during the first four months of 2026. The infraction reports were forwarded by the Municipal Police Surveillance Directorate (PMV) to the Misdemeanor Courts, which will proceed with the fine procedures.
The most common infractions include vacant yards, abandoned properties, and unmaintained pools, all considered public health risks as they favor the proliferation of mosquitoes transmitting dengue and chikungunya. PMV Director Miguel Ángel Stampf highlighted that the volume of infractions represents a potential million-dollar revenue in fines for the municipal coffers after the summary proceedings are concluded.
Workers received logistical support from the General Directorate of Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (DGRRD). According to authorities, vector disease rates remained low during the summer, breaking the endemic trend that historically affects the country. The city hall emphasized that controls will continue randomly in neighborhoods of the capital and asked the population to maintain hygiene practices in private and community areas.
