The Paraguayan social security agency (IPS) announced the progressive replenishment of more than 180 medicines that were out of stock nationwide. The measure was taken after a meeting with authorities and legislators, amid strong complaints from patients, especially cancer patients, who had to postpone treatments or buy medicines out of pocket.
The IPS committed to restoring stock within 15 days and will investigate actions against companies that owe employer‑employee contributions. The supply shortage had created a critical situation in the agency’s pharmacies, with zero stock of dozens of essential medicines.
