A 19-year-old woman, identified as Odila Almirón, reported to the National Police that she was assaulted on the night of Sunday (17) at a soccer field in the 4th neighborhood of General Artigas, in the department of Itapúa. According to her account, she was at the location when Gustavo Brítez Benítez, 44, a resident of Alto Paraná, tried to hug her. Upon refusing, the man allegedly reacted violently, striking her in the neck area.
The victim was taken, according to her account, to a health center for medical care and subsequently filed a formal complaint at the police station. Hours later, Brítez Benítez voluntarily turned himself in at the 8th Police Station of General Artigas, where he was detained in flagrante.
The detainee remains at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting the investigation. The National Police did not disclose whether he had a criminal record.
