Organized associations of retirees from the Social Security Institute (IPS) announced they will hold a press conference on the morning of this Wednesday to present clear and forceful demands. Among the main points is the request for the departure of two members of the Board of Directors: José Emilio Argaña and José Jara Rojas, the latter being the representative of the retirees themselves on the board.

The group's spokesperson, Elvio Brun, stated that the retirees also want to reaffirm their full support for the current IPS president, Dr. Isaías Fretes. “We want to make our position of support for him clear, for his patriotism, his ability, his transparency, and the courage with which he is working,” Brun declared.

Regarding Jara Rojas, Brun was emphatic: “He does not represent us. Besides lacking ability and integrity, he lacks dignity, because if the president asks him to resign, he does not do so.” The spokesperson added that the dissatisfaction is not only due to Fretes' request but also to the lack of concrete actions in favor of retirees. As an example, he recalled that during the protests in front of the Caja Jubilatoria, Jara Rojas never approached to dialogue with the retirees.

The request for the resignation of Argaña and Jara Rojas occurs amid a context of pressure for greater transparency and efficiency in the management of the IPS, which administers mandatory social security in Paraguay.
