The National Highway Patrol Directorate executed 616 control and inspection procedures on highways throughout Paraguayan territory between May 10 and 16. The operations, carried out strategically on the main road corridors, aimed to reinforce road safety, monitor compliance with current regulations, and reduce risk factors that contribute to accidents.
As a result, agents removed 118 drivers from circulation who committed very serious infractions under the National Traffic and Road Safety Law. In the breathalyzer tests applied at checkpoints, 17 drivers tested positive and were immediately prevented from driving to avoid incidents.
Additionally, 72 drivers received administrative sanctions for making improper overtaking in prohibited locations. Authorities emphasized that this type of reckless maneuver is among the most critical infractions on national highways due to its high potential to cause head-on collisions.
The operations involved personnel from different regional headquarters and detachments, through mobile patrols and fixed control points.
In the weekly accident report, the institution reported 26 traffic accidents within its jurisdiction. According to technical data collected by agents, half of these events — exactly 13 — resulted in injuries of varying severity.
