Left-back Blas Riveros, who is on coach Gustavo Alfaro's preliminary list for the 2026 World Cup, still has no return date to the pitch. The uncertainty increased after statements by Cerro Porteño coach Ariel Holan, who downplayed the chances of the player featuring in the club's upcoming matches.
In an interview, Holan stated: "In the last press conference, I said he might be the closest, but I don't see that he can make it. I also don't know if he will be ready for the last match of the Apertura." The words contrast with the optimism shown by the athlete on social media, where he posted videos training with the ball.
Riveros suffered a relapse on February 21, during the Superclásico against Olimpia, when he played for less than ten minutes before leaving the field. Since then, he has not played officially. The lack of match fitness and the short time until the World Cup raise alarms in the Albirroja coaching staff.
Cerro Porteño faces Palmeiras on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores, but Riveros' presence is ruled out. The situation of the player, formerly of Talleres, is closely monitored by the Paraguayan national team, which is seeking to finalize the squad for the tournament.
