The Municipality of Asunción informed that the deadline for the annual renewal of driver's licenses expires on May 31. To avoid lines and speed up service, the municipality maintains alternative points besides the central office: the Centro Paraguayo Japonés (CPJ), located on Julio Correa and Domingo Portillo streets, operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and there is also a payment point at the Superseis supermarket in the Sajonia neighborhood.
Drivers aged 65 and older must undergo vision, hearing, and psychotechnical exams every year, according to Ordinance No. 113/17. The requirement applies both to renewal and revalidation of the document.
The Traffic Department of the municipality warns that driving with an expired license or without the renewal up to date constitutes an infraction, subject to a fine and, in certain cases, vehicle seizure by the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT).
Since this year, the annual decal has been replaced by a QR code incorporated into the license, which allows other operations. The Director of Traffic and Transportation, Vicente Cappello, explained that the previous format remains valid until the five-year expiration of the document, but those who wish to obtain the new model before the deadline can request a duplicate with the QR.
Authorities recommend that taxpayers not leave the process for the last days of the month, when demand usually overloads systems and service centers.
