Sacrifice and Love: Three Mothers in Cabañas Share Their Stories of Resilience

In Cabañas, Caacupé, three mothers—Deisy Guerrero, Mercedes Colmán, and Rosalba Ortíz—embody the strength and dedication of Paraguayan mothers. Through personal challenges, including caring for a child with multiple health issues, working multiple jobs, and prioritizing family, they demonstrate unwavering love and hope for a better future.

In the quiet community of Cabañas, Caacupé, the stories of three mothers highlight the daily sacrifices and boundless love that define motherhood in Paraguay. As reported by ABC Color, these women—Deisy Guerrero, Mercedes Colmán, and Rosalba Ortíz—face immense challenges yet find strength in their children.

Deisy Guerrero, from the Centro neighborhood, left her weekday job to care full-time for her son Jesús Daniel, who was born with a serious illness. Within three days of birth, he underwent his first surgery; since then, he has had more than nine operations and lives with clubfoot and kidney failure. Guerrero told ABC Color, “My mission as a mother is to give him all the love and care he deserves, help him through every stage, and see him fulfilled. With God, everything is possible.” She dreams of a Paraguay that “respects, accepts, and gives love and empathy,” so her son can feel secure as a “brave, warrior, champion” child.

Mercedes Colmán, from the María Auxiliadora neighborhood, works in cleaning services to support her family. She raised her children through sacrifice, often putting their needs before her own. “My mission as a mother is to give them lots of love, make them feel safe, and teach them to value things, but above all to be good people,” she said. Colmán acknowledged the difficulty of raising children today but emphasized that love remains the most important tool.

Rosalba Ortíz, from the Sagrado Corazón neighborhood, works as a seamstress and also makes and sells chipa, riding her motorcycle early each morning to sell her products. Despite long hours, she always finds time for her children. “We must teach them to be good people and to always fight for their dreams,” she affirmed.

These profiles, published by ABC Color on Mother's Day, reflect the broader reality of many Paraguayan mothers who work tirelessly, cry in silence, and rise again through love. Their stories underscore a legacy of affection and perseverance that shapes the next generation.
