Drunk military invades opposite lane and collides with truck in Ñemby

A Paraguayan Navy sub-officer, with 0.780 mg/L of alcohol in his blood, lost control of his car on Route PY01 (former South Access), invaded the opposite lane, and violently crashed into a Scania truck. No one was seriously injured.

In the early hours of this Monday (18), a Paraguayan Navy military caused a serious accident on Route PY01, former South Access, in Ñemby, Central Department. Dylan Israel Ávalos López, a sub-officer of the Navy Combat Support Command, was driving a white Kia Soluto when he lost control, invaded the opposite lane, and collided head-on with a Scania truck driven by Ricardo Estigarribia (39).

The breathalyzer test conducted by police indicated 0.780 milliliters of alcohol per liter of blood, confirming that Ávalos was driving drunk. Despite the violence of the impact — recorded by a camera in a passing vehicle — neither driver suffered serious injuries.

In his statement, the military alleged, without evidence, that an unidentified pickup truck had scraped his car, causing him to lose control. The truck driver, who was heading towards Asunción, could not avoid the crash. After the accident, Ávalos was taken to the Military Hospital, where he remained under observation.
