A serious case of domestic violence mobilized police in the city of Ypané, Central Department, Saturday night. Élida López Ramos, 42, was arrested after allegedly assaulting her husband, Ramón Martínez, 41, and the couple's two daughters, aged 7 and 8, and attempting to set the family home on fire.
The incident occurred in the La Pradera area, in the Paso de Oro district. Neighbors heard cries for help and called the 911 Emergency System, which sent officers from the 23rd Central Police Station to the scene.
According to the police report, the fight began after an argument between the couple. During the altercation, López Ramos allegedly struck Martínez and pushed one of the children. The situation escalated when she removed gasoline from a motorcycle parked in the yard and began spreading the fuel inside the house and over personal belongings, while threatening to set the property on fire and kill her daughters and herself.
In the midst of the desperation, Martínez managed to remove the girls from the house and take them to a neighbor's residence. López Ramos then locked herself inside the house, blocking all entrances.
With the complainant's authorization, police broke down the door and, after a physical struggle in which the husband also assisted, managed to immobilize the woman before she could set the fire.
At the police station, López Ramos underwent a breathalyzer test, which registered 0.629 mg/L of alcohol in her blood. Due to her aggressive state, she attempted to bang her head against the cell bars and was kept handcuffed.
Prosecutor Rosanna Martínez took over the case and ordered the woman's arrest for domestic violence.
