A 23-year-old woman was arrested this Saturday (16) in downtown Villarrica after leading a police chase that ended with shots fired at the vehicle where she was with her three-month-old daughter. Liz Mabel Benítez Báez, a resident of the San Miguel neighborhood, was driving a Toyota Allion when agents tried to approach her. According to the police report, she accelerated sharply and began fleeing through central streets of the capital of the Guairá department, even driving against traffic.
The National Police set up a cordon with support from the Special Operations Group (GEO), the Investigations Department, and other units. During the chase, agents shot at the car's tires to stop it. The incident caused great concern because the baby was exposed to the gunfire and the flight. The vehicle was only intercepted on Capitán Demattei Street after scraping a patrol car. Even when surrounded, the driver tried to continue fleeing, leading to another shot at one of the tires.
After the arrest, police found several portions of a white substance inside the car. During a medical examination at the Villarrica Regional Hospital, more doses were found hidden between the woman's intimate parts. Narcotest results confirmed a positive result for suspected cocaine and cocaine hydrochloride, totaling more than 48 grams split into several doses.
