Neighbor dispute in Cambyretá ends with machete injuries after children’s argument

A disagreement between minors escalated into a violent clash among adults in the La Amistad neighborhood of Cambyretá, leaving two people injured, one with a deep head wound from a machete.

An argument between children sparked a brutal fight among neighbors in the La Amistad neighborhood of Cambyretá on Tuesday afternoon, May 19. The conflict, which involved machetes and physical assaults, left two people injured and drew emergency crews.

The victims were identified as Fernando Emanuel Segovia Cáceres, 30, and Verónica López Sánchez, 26, both local residents. Segovia suffered a head injury with a roughly 10-centimeter cut to the back of the skull, allegedly caused by a machete blow. López had head trauma and multiple facial abrasions.

Preliminary investigations indicate the brawl began after a dispute between minors that eventually drew in adults. Witnesses said an exchange of insults and threats escalated into physical attacks. At one point, José Andrés López Seutin, one of those named as responsible, allegedly asked for a machete and struck Segovia when he tried to step in and calm things down.

Alongside López Seutin — who has a record for aggravated robbery and domestic violence — Luis Alberto Pereira de Sousa and Digna Martínez Benega were also named as alleged participants. Police were called via an emergency line and arrived to find the victims with visible injuries. Volunteer firefighters provided first aid and took the wounded to the Southern Regional Hospital in Encarnación.

The case was reported to the on-duty prosecutor, Néstor Alonso, and investigations continue to clarify all details and determine legal responsibility.
