Olimpia has begun talks to retain one of the revelations of the first half of the season: forward Romeo Benítez. The 23-year-old, whose rights belong to Brazilian club Athletico Paranaense, is currently on loan until June 2026, but the Paraguayan club wants to extend the deal through 2027, according to a report by El Nacional.
Journalist Ariel Insfrán, who covers Olimpia for 730 AM, reported that the club is negotiating directly with both the Brazilian side and the player. Benítez has seen a sharp increase in playing time since Pablo “Vitamina” Sánchez took over as head coach. In the 2025 Clausura tournament, he played only four matches, but this season he has already appeared in 11 games across the Apertura and Copa Sudamericana, showing consistent growth that has convinced the coaching staff and management.
El Nacional notes that the loan expires in June 2026, and Olimpia’s intention is to secure Benítez’s services for at least another year. The forward’s development under Sánchez has made him a priority for the club’s sporting project.
