Operation in Itapúa Results in One Dead, One Detained, and Over 700 kg of Marijuana Seized

A police patrol in Mayor Otaño, Itapúa, ended with the seizure of 760 kg of marijuana, the arrest of Nazario Lencina Oliveira, and the death of Miguel Ángel Talavera Amarilla after an exchange of gunfire.

In the early hours of this Sunday, officers from the 19th Police Station in Mayor Otaño were conducting preventive patrols in the Colônia Parejha area when they spotted three vehicles acting suspiciously. When they attempted to approach them, the occupants fled and opened fire on the patrol vehicle, triggering a chase that culminated in an armed confrontation.

After several kilometers, the police intercepted two of the vehicles — a Chevrolet Tracker and a Nissan Frontier — and arrested Nazario Lencina Oliveira, 34. Inside one of the pickup trucks, 760 kg of pressed marijuana were found, according to the police report.

During the shootout, Miguel Ángel Talavera Amarilla, 35, was wounded and died hours later at the Mayor Otaño District Hospital. Police reported that the suspects are allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
