Police Operation in La Chacarita Results in Arrest for Aggravated Theft and Six Detentions

A joint operation by the 5th Metropolitan Police Station and the Tourist Security Department in the Ricardo Brugada neighborhood, known as La Chacarita, in Asunción, resulted in the arrest of Josías Daniel Aranda Santacruz, 20, wanted for aggravated theft. Additionally, six people were detained for identity verification and two motorcycles were seized.

Officers from the 5th Metropolitan Police Station, in collaboration with the Tourist Security Department, carried out a surprise operation on Saturday night in various areas of the Ricardo Brugada neighborhood, better known as La Chacarita, in Asunción. The police action focused on the “lower zone” of the neighborhood, covering sectors such as Arenera, San Felipe, the Peru canal, the Coletora area, and Florencio Villamayor.

Commissioner Isidro Gamarra explained that these incursions are part of an ongoing effort to increase police presence and curb criminal activities in the region. During the operation, Josías Daniel Aranda Santacruz, 20, was detained. He had a pending arrest warrant for aggravated theft, issued on May 7 by the Criminal Guarantees Court No. 4, and had been declared a fugitive by the courts.

In addition to the arrest, six individuals were taken to the police station for identity verification, as they were not carrying documents and provided inconsistent information. The National Police reported that some of those detained had prior records for aggravated robbery, aggravated theft, and drug-related crimes.

The operation also led to the seizure of two motorcycles that were being driven by minors without the necessary documentation. A Kenton GTR 150 motorcycle was being ridden by a 17-year-old adolescent, while a 14-year-old minor was driving a Kenton Fusión 125. Both were registered and referred for appropriate procedures.

Commissioner Gamarra emphasized that the goal of these operations is to provide peace of mind to residents and remove individuals with criminal intentions from circulation, especially in areas considered sensitive in the capital. He noted that due to the geographical complexity of La Chacarita, with its alleys and narrow access points, most incursions are carried out on foot to cover a larger area. The operation concluded without major incidents, and patrols and preventive controls continue in the populous neighborhood.
