A lawyer identified as Willian de Souza was arrested on the morning of this Monday (18) in Santa Rita, department of Alto Paraná, during Operation Omega, a joint effort of nine countries against child sexual exploitation in digital environments. The detention occurred around 6:30 a.m. at a residence in the city, under the coordination of prosecutor Ruth Karina Benítez, the Specialized Department in Cybercrime Investigation of the National Police, and the Regional Office of Alto Paraná.
According to authorities, the suspect had been monitored since 2019 through technical analysis and cyber surveillance. During this period, over 35,000 files related to the case were analyzed. Investigators detected that the child sexual abuse material was downloaded, stored, and later sold, with payments received in cryptocurrencies — a distinguishing factor compared to other similar cases.
Commissioner Diosnel Alarcón, head of Cybercrime and Computer Crimes of the National Police, explained that the investigation was based on reports from crypto-asset wallets, which indicated sales and charges for the illicit content. “The already substantiated evidence includes the downloads of the content and the commercialization receiving payment,” Alarcón stated.
During the execution of the search and seizure warrant, computer equipment, digital storage devices, cell phones, SIM cards, and documents considered relevant to the investigation were confiscated. All material will undergo digital forensic analysis to identify files, communications, and other elements that may corroborate the facts.
Prosecutor Rocío Gómez, who also participated in the operation, highlighted that the detention was based on reports from crypto-asset wallets. The case involves a family with financial resources, according to Alarcón, and the investigation may trigger international procedures, as other individuals involved abroad have been identified. Operation Omega is a coordinated action among specialized agencies from nine countries to combat child sexual exploitation in digital environments.
