Two bodies were found on Saturday, May 17, in the district of Cambyretá, department of Itapúa, under violent circumstances. The first case occurred in the Paraná colony, where Francisco Alcides Saucedo Quiñónez, 28, a native of Encarnación, was found dead beside a rural road, about 2,000 meters from Route 14.
The National Police were alerted by the 911 system at 5:40 p.m. Officers from the 24th Police Station of Cambyretá Centro found the body wearing an Olimpia club shirt, black shorts, and white sneakers, with a gunshot wound to the head. Forensic doctor Fany Escalante diagnosed the probable cause of death as “craniocerebral polytrauma due to firearm injury.” The duty prosecutor, Giovanna Vera, from the 4th Penal Unit, accompanied the procedure, and Sub-Officer Natalia López, from Criminalistics, conducted the forensic examination. The body was taken to the morgue of the General Hospital of Itapúa.
On the same day, in the Barrero Guazú neighborhood, a car was found on fire. After the fire was extinguished, officers from the 101st Police Station of the San Miguel neighborhood located a completely charred body inside the vehicle. So far, authorities have not been able to identify the victim due to the condition of the body. Prosecutor Vera is also investigating this case.
The two incidents raise concern about violence in the region. The police have not reported whether there is a connection between the crimes.
