PARAGUARÍ — Relatives of Pablo Daniel Irala Barrios, 47, from the Roa Rugua community, María Antonia district, in the department of Paraguarí, urgently request a bed in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the patient, who is intubated in the emergency room of the Regional Hospital of Paraguarí with a terminal condition of liver cirrhosis.

According to niece Micaela Pereira, the attending physician informed the family that the patient could not be transferred and that the chances of survival were minimal. Some relatives even signed a document refusing local ICU admission, believing the condition was irreversible. However, in recent hours, the patient has shown body movements, renewing hopes of recovery.

Currently, all eight ICU beds in the hospital are occupied. The family asks health authorities to secure a bed anywhere in the country and transfer him to a higher-complexity center.

The director of the 9th Health Region, Auria Villalba, explained that initially a bed was reserved in Paraguarí, but the relatives refused because they wanted to take the patient to Luque, where most of the family resides — a hospital that also does not have an ICU bed. Villalba added that the admission request is renewed every 12 hours and that all public ICUs are currently saturated. The transfer, when a bed becomes available, will depend on the Extrahospital Medical Emergencies Service (SEME), linked to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPyBS).
