Prosecutors charged Juan Ramón Arrúa Martínez with smuggling after detaining his truck with 283 boxes of inputs for alleged weight-loss medicines from Bolivia. The operation was carried out by the Directorate Against Economic and Financial Offenses in the Chaco region.
The operation took place on August 14 in the La Patria area of Mariscal Estigarribia, in the Boquerón department, during a routine inspection at kilometer 659 of National Route No. 9.
According to authorities, the vehicle had reportedly entered Paraguay from Bolivia carrying boxes that contained medical inputs without health registration from the National Directorate for Health Surveillance (Dinavisa) for sale and use in the country. The material was suspected of being intended to counterfeit or market alleged injectable medicines for obesity.
Preliminary checks found 283 boxes inside the vehicle, possibly linked to the production and circulation of several brands. The prosecutor requested preventive detention for the driver, who remains in custody pending the criminal proceedings.
