Brazilian pastor accused of abusing 30 children arrested in Paraguay and extradited

Alcemir de Souza, a 47-year-old Brazilian pastor, was detained in Saltos del Guairá, Canindeyú, on charges of sexually abusing 30 boys in Brazil. He was a fugitive and worked as a delivery driver in Paraguay. After capture, he was extradited to Brazil.

The National Police of Paraguay arrested on Thursday, May 19, the Brazilian pastor Alcemir de Souza, 47, in Saltos del Guairá, Canindeyú department. He was internationally wanted for child sexual abuse in Brazil, with an Interpol red notice.

According to Commissioner Juan Fretes, head of Interpol in Paraguay, the arrest resulted from a joint investigation with the Federal Police and the State Police of Guaira, in Brazil. Reports indicate that de Souza allegedly abused at least 30 boys, in crimes dating back more than five years.

After fleeing Brazil, the pastor took refuge in Paraguay, where he again worked as a pastor and worked as a delivery driver to support himself. He was expelled from Paraguayan territory and handed over to Brazilian authorities to face justice.
