President Santiago Peña on Tuesday inaugurated the high-level conference cycle of the Carlos Antonio López Diplomatic and Consular Academy with the lecture “International Projection of Paraguay: Priorities, Challenges, and Opportunities.” The event, closed to the press, took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was moderated by Ambassador Estefanía Laterza de los Ríos, director of the Academy.
During his presentation, Peña emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening Paraguay's image and international visibility. He highlighted the country's sustained economic growth and excellent relations with neighboring nations, based on principles and values.
“The foreign service (embassies, consulates, and permanent representations) has the enormous responsibility of amplifying Paraguay's international positioning,” Peña said. According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs employee must be versatile and have broad, comprehensive training in all topics related to the country.
The president also listed Paraguay's strategic advantages. He pointed out that, despite being a landlocked country, Paraguay has competitive access to the sea thanks to its river system and barge fleet, considered the third largest in the world. He also mentioned progress on projects such as the bioceanic corridor and improved river navigability, which will strengthen the country's position as a connection point between the Atlantic and the Pacific.
Peña also highlighted Paraguay's potential in digital connectivity, electrical energy, and climate stability, factors that position the country as a privileged place for investments and technological development. “Paraguay has a future of prosperity and we need to be prepared,” he concluded.
