Peña inspects stormwater works on Avenida Avelino Martínez and promises definitive solution for flooding in San Lorenzo

President Santiago Peña and Minister Claudia Centurión inspected the stormwater drainage and recovery works on Avenida Avelino Martínez in San Lorenzo, aimed at solving structural and flooding problems after more than 40 years without a comprehensive intervention.

Paraguay's President Santiago Peña, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, inspected this Saturday (16) the progress of the stormwater drainage and recovery works on Avenida Avelino Martínez in San Lorenzo. The project, with an execution period of over 20 months, seeks to provide a definitive solution to the structural and flooding problems affecting this important road.

During the visit, Centurión highlighted that in more than 40 years of use of the avenue, a complete intervention to solve the hydraulic problem had never been carried out. “No one ever dared to open the entire avenue and do what is really necessary, which is a hydraulic solution,” the minister stated. She explained that the main objective is to divert the accumulated water on the road and channel it to the San Lorenzo stream, improving traffic and reducing the impact of rain for drivers, merchants, and residents.

Centurión detailed that the work is being carried out in two lots, with a method aimed at minimizing disruptions: “Work is concentrated at one point, closed, left operational, and then moves on to the next sector.” The final stage includes the placement of rigid pavement, ensuring greater durability and better circulation conditions on rainy days.

President Peña stated that his administration prioritizes urban works with great social impact, especially in densely populated areas. “We could have chosen the easy path, like resurfacing, but we decided to do a real and permanent solution, working on the foundations that are often not seen,” he declared. He added that the work will benefit future generations and emphasized the coordination between the National Government and the municipal administration.

Peña also informed that the responsible companies will work six days a week, with shifts of up to 14 hours daily, to meet the schedule and speed up execution.
