Police chase ends in fatal rollover in Pedro Juan Caballero

A chase initiated by the Brazilian Military Highway Police ended tragically in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, when a fleeing vehicle rolled over and fell into a swimming pool, killing a woman who was a passenger.

A routine operation by the Brazilian Military Highway Police in the city of Ponta Porã triggered a chase that crossed the border and ended in tragedy in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay. The driver of a car attempted to flee a traffic checkpoint and sped into Paraguayan territory.

Once on Paraguayan soil, the vehicle invaded a private property, lost control, rolled over, and fell into a swimming pool. The impact was violent and left the passenger seriously injured. She was rescued and taken to the Regional Hospital of Ponta Porã, where she died shortly after admission.

Authorities have not yet officially released the victim's identity. The body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute for forensic examination and identification.

Police officers and representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Paraguay and Brazil have initiated a joint investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Investigators are seeking to determine the motive for the flight, the origin of the vehicle, and the legal status of other individuals involved.
