Japan Opens Scholarship Applications for Paraguayans; Deadline May 29

The Japanese government offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies to Paraguayans, covering housing, academic fees, and airfare. Applications are open until May 29.

The Japanese government opened applications on April 29 for scholarships aimed at Paraguayan students, for both undergraduate and graduate programs at Japanese universities. The program is coordinated by Paraguay's Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC) and Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The scholarships include 12 months of educational preparation. To apply, candidates must have advanced English proficiency and basic or higher knowledge of Japanese, as well as a minimum academic average of 3.5. Graduate positions are for graduates up to 35 years old (as of April 1, 2027) who wish to pursue research, a master's, or a doctorate. Undergraduate positions are for high school graduates up to 25 years old, covering university courses, specialized technical training, and technological careers.

Candidates will take exams in mathematics, Japanese, English, physics, and chemistry, as well as interviews. The preliminary selection will be conducted by the Japanese embassy, and the final selection by the Japanese ministry, based on documentation and exam results.

The Japanese government covers housing, academic fees, enrollment, exams, and round-trip airfare. The scholarship recipient is responsible for airport taxes, special taxes, travel insurance, and internal transportation to the destination institution.

Fields of study include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Communication and Networks, Materials Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Maritime Engineering.

The application deadline is May 29. More information is available on the Japanese embassy website.
