An autopsy performed by Dr. Pablo Lemir has determined that Mariza Paola Balbuena Medina, 26, died from a traumatic brain injury caused by a solid blunt object, according to a report from Paraguayan outlet El Nacional. The forensic examination revealed a depressed fracture on the left occipital region and a mandibular injury, with the impact described as involving high kinetic energy incompatible with life.
Balbuena's body was discovered in a wooded area of Loreto after investigators tracked blood stains to a recent shallow grave. The main suspect is her partner, Juan Antonio González, 28, who has a prior record of domestic violence and an outstanding arrest warrant dating from 2018. The Public Prosecutor's Office is continuing investigations, and the case is being treated as a suspected femicide.
