The National Animal Quality and Health Service (Senacsa) has extended the second vaccination period against foot-and-mouth disease and brucellosis in Paraguay until June 26. Data entry into the computerized system may be completed by July 3, in accordance with Resolution No. 860.

The deadline extension was prompted by weather conditions recorded across various regions of the country, with the aim of ensuring adequate immunization coverage of the national herd. The current phase corresponds to a supplementary vaccination round targeting calves and weanlings for foot-and-mouth disease, and young females for the first dose against brucellosis.

In the department of Itapúa, the campaign has reached approximately 90% of the targeted establishments, with more than 101,000 animals vaccinated. The head of the Encarnación Zonal Unit of Senacsa, Ovidio Ferreira, described the figures as highly satisfactory and highlighted the commitment of livestock producers to the health campaigns.

Ferreira also noted that Paraguay recently received international certification accrediting it as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination, a recognition granted by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OMSA) during a meeting held in France. For the professional, animal health is a shared responsibility between authorities and producers, and is one of the pillars for maintaining the country's sanitary reputation and access to international markets.
