Police in Bella Vista Norte, Amambay department, suspect that a child was used to carry out a theft of 22,000 Brazilian reais (approximately $4,000) from a Real supermarket branch. The robbery occurred early Thursday morning, according to ABC Color.

The supermarket, located on Route PY 08 at General Díaz Street in the city center, backs onto a vacant lot. Officers believe the perpetrators used a metal structure to reach a pivot window, broke a pane, and then sent a person small enough to squeeze through the opening—likely a child, police told ABC Color.

Once inside, the thief made his way to a cash register where the money had been left overnight for early-morning supplier payments. The suspects then fled with the cash.

The theft was discovered when the first employees arrived to open the store. Officers from the local police station and the regional investigations office collected evidence and began an inquiry. Police sources in Amambay said they have obtained security camera footage from nearby buildings that may help identify the suspects.

No arrests have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.
