Three candidates are vying for the position of Comptroller General of the Republic in Paraguay

Three candidates — Édgar Hernán Sosa, Rubén Darío Robadín, and Óscar Enrique Rolón — are vying for the position of Comptroller General of the Republic in Paraguay, with expectations that new authorities will be chosen as early as November, following a process led by Congress.

Three candidates are already in the race for the position of Comptroller General of the Republic, and the expectation is that the Comptroller General's Office will have new leadership as early as November.

Édgar Hernán Sosa and Rubén Darío Robadín were the last to enter the selection process. Sosa is a lawyer from Ciudad del Este, aged 56, with 29 years of professional experience. Robadín holds a master's degree in Education, with a specialization in University Teaching Methods, and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He is originally from Lambaré. He currently teaches at various universities and has accumulated experience in civil project management, business consulting, and audiovisual production.

Both join Óscar Enrique Rolón, the first to register for the process. Rolón holds a doctorate in Economics and a master's degree in Auditing and Management Control, also from Ciudad del Este. With over 20 years of experience in accounting management, oversight, and university teaching, he stands out as a designated expert accounting auditor in complex judicial succession proceedings, having led financial and asset audits at large corporations and multinational companies.

The three are competing for the position of Comptroller General, but Robadín has also applied for the role of Deputy Comptroller.

Applications must be submitted in person by June 30, in a folder containing the required documentation, at the Office of the Secretary-General, on the third floor of the Senate, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is also possible to send documents via the institutional email secretariageneral@senado.gov.py at any time. Among the required documents are a certified copy of the identity card, a résumé, a police background check certificate, and a legalized copy of the university degree diploma.

Candidates must meet the requirements set forth in the National Constitution and current legislation, such as being natural-born Paraguayan citizens, being at least 30 years old, and holding a university degree in Law, Economics, Business Administration, or Accounting.

After the application deadline closes, Congress will forward the final list of applicants to the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, chaired by Senator Javier Zacarías Irún, which will hold public hearings to evaluate each candidate. The Senate will then draw up a triple list, which will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies for the final selection.
