A tractor-trailer was engulfed in flames Thursday afternoon while traveling on Ramal 086 in Canindeyú department, according to 1000 Noticias. The fire broke out around kilometer 20 on the road to Puerto Adela, destroying the front structure of the vehicle.
The truck, a burgundy Scania R420 with license plate AAGF-090, was driven by 28-year-old Fernando Martín Z. Caballero, a resident of Central department. Caballero told police the fire likely started from an electrical short circuit in the engine, spreading rapidly to the cab before he could extinguish it.
Passersby and other drivers stopped to help, using fire extinguishers to control the flames and prevent them from reaching the trailer, which would have caused even greater losses. Despite the intensity of the fire, Caballero escaped without injury.
The truck sustained severe damage, particularly to the engine and cabin, which were left nearly unusable. Police officers arrived at the scene to file a report and manage traffic. No other vehicles or people were harmed.
