Last Sunday, 60 female inmates from the Concepción Regional Penitentiary were transferred to the Prison Complex for Women Deprived of Liberty (Comple), located in Emboscada, Cordillera department. The transfer was carried out under strict security measures and is part of Operation Umbral 2.5, a reorganization of the prison system promoted by the Ministry of Justice.
Of the inmates who were in Concepción, only 15 remained in the unit. So far, authorities have not disclosed the identity of the transferred women nor the criteria used to determine who would stay and who would be taken to Comple.
Relatives of the inmates await official information about the conditions of the transfer and the situation of the inmates. The Ministry of Justice has not made an official statement on the matter.
