Operation 'Umbral 2.5': Paraguay Transfers Women from Six Prisons to Emboscada

The National Police of Paraguay concluded Operation 'Umbral 2.5' this weekend, a transfer operation of women deprived of liberty from six mixed prisons to the Women's Penitentiary of the Emboscada Complex. The transfer was carried out simultaneously from the penitentiaries of the departments of Concepción, Guairá, Amambay, Misiones, Itapúa, and Alto Paraná, under strict security measures and inter-institutional coordination.

The National Police stated that the transportation of the detainees was carried out by the Armed Forces, while the escort of the security capsules was done in stages by police officers in each area of responsibility, ensuring continuous protection throughout the entire route. 'The operation was executed according to established protocols, highlighting the coordinated, disciplined, and strategic work of the involved forces for the safe completion of the mission,' the corporation reported.

So far, the Ministry of Justice has not disclosed the number of women transferred nor additional details about the operation. The initiative is part of government efforts to reduce overcrowding in mixed prison units and centralize the female prison population at the Emboscada complex.
