Meteorology warns of storms with 80 km/h winds in Paraguay starting Sunday

The Paraguayan Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a warning for storms with winds of up to 80 km/h, heavy rain, lightning, and hail starting Sunday, with the phenomenon affecting 14 regions of the country through Monday night.

The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) issued a special bulletin warning of the arrival of a storm system in Paraguay starting this Sunday, with forecasts of heavy rain, lightning, hail, and wind gusts that could reach or exceed 80 km/h. The phenomenon is expected to last through Monday night.

According to the report released at 6 p.m. Saturday, the system will progressively advance through the Eastern and Western regions, affecting a total of 14 areas across the country. Rainfall accumulations are expected to range between 20 and 50 millimeters, with the possibility of isolated hail.

During Sunday afternoon, the storms are expected to move into the departments of Ñeembucú and Misiones. By nightfall, the system will extend to Itapúa, Caazapá, Paraguarí, and push into the Chaco, reaching Presidente Hayes and Boquerón.

In the early hours of Monday, the severe weather will reach Guairá, Cordillera, Central, and the capital, Asunción. In the morning, the rains will shift toward Caaguazú and San Pedro, and during the afternoon the system will complete its path by affecting the department of Alto Paraná. The weather alert is expected to be lifted Monday night.

According to Juan Gamarra, a meteorologist at the DMH, conditions are expected to be cool, with lows between 12°C and 16°C and highs between 17°C and 20°C across much of the country.
