Paraguay's Ministry of Justice concluded this Sunday the transfer of 361 women deprived of liberty from six penitentiaries to the Penitentiary Complex for Women Deprived of Liberty (COMPLE) in Emboscada. The operation, named Umbral 2.5, was carried out jointly with the National Police and the Armed Forces, with no incidents reported.
The inmates were removed from the units in Ciudad del Este, Concepción, Itapúa, Misiones, Villarrica, and Pedro Juan Caballero. From the Juana María de Lara women's penitentiary in Ciudad del Este, 109 women left; from the San Juan Bautista prison in the department of Misiones, another 56.
According to an official statement from the ministry, the transfer occurred within the planned schedule, with strict security protocols and respect for human rights. The operation was coordinated inter-institutionally, ensuring order and dignity for the inmates.
The institution reported that it will provide further clarification at a press conference on the morning of this Monday. Family members of the inmates were reassured by the promise that all information will be released through the ministry's official channels.
