16-year-old in serious condition after being run over in Capiatá; 70-year-old driver was medicated

A 16-year-old teenager is hospitalized in intensive care at the Trauma Hospital of Asunción after being run over by a pickup truck in Capiatá, Central Department. The driver, aged 70, tested negative for alcohol but was under the effect of controlled medications. Family members demand the driver's responsibility for the costs.

A serious accident that occurred on May 13, in front of the Raúl Peña School in Capiatá, left three students injured, one of whom, aged 16, remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit of the Trauma Hospital of Asunción, with a head injury. The case was recorded by security cameras and broadcast by Telefuturo.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 70-year-old man, showed no signs of intoxication in the breathalyzer test, but was under the effect of controlled medications at the time of the accident, according to the broadcaster. The victims were rescued and immediately taken to the hospital.

Family and friends of the young people demand that the driver cover all medical expenses. The mother of one of the injured, whose name was not disclosed, lamented: “Our children were fine, we took care of them as if they were made of cotton, and this happens. They wash their hands; I want these people to take responsibility for all the expenses. My son is fine, the other one too, but how will this one be?”

The police and the Public Prosecutor's Office are investigating the case. The family of the teenager in serious condition asks for help to cover the treatment and provided the contact (0985) 458297 for donations.
