Residents of the city of Luque, in the metropolitan region of Asunción, denounce the existence of a tire dump that has been causing disruption and insecurity in the neighborhood. According to reports, the land where the tires are accumulated would belong to an elderly military man, but so far there is no concrete response from those responsible.
A neighbor, who preferred not to be identified, stated that the situation has become unsustainable. "There are many vermin, rats and mosquitoes. Also, people who use drugs gather there, which makes us afraid," she said. She asked that the city hall and other authorities take urgent measures to clean the site and prevent new dumping.
The irregular tire dump is an environmental and public health problem, as it can serve as a breeding ground for the dengue mosquito and other vectors. The report was unable to contact the landowner or the Luque city hall to comment on the case.
