Collision Between Pickup Trucks Leaves Two Lightly Injured at Unmarked Intersection in Villa Morra

Two pickup trucks collided on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Del Maestro and O'Higgins streets in the Villa Morra neighborhood of Asunción. The impact threw a white Kia against an electrical pole, which prevented it from overturning. Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Residents and workers in the area denounce the lack of stop signs at the intersection, cited as a recurring cause of accidents.

A collision between two pickup trucks on Monday afternoon (18) in the Villa Morra neighborhood of Asunción has reignited concerns about the lack of road signage at the intersection of Del Maestro and O'Higgins streets, near the Telefuturo channel headquarters. The accident occurred around 2 p.m., a time of lighter traffic, but caused great alarm among residents.

Security camera footage shows the moment a white Kia pickup truck, traveling along Del Maestro from San Martín Avenue toward Sacramento Street, is hit from the side by a black pickup truck driving along O'Higgins toward España Avenue. The impact threw the Kia against a concrete electrical pole, which, according to witnesses, prevented the vehicle from overturning.

Both drivers, whose identities were not disclosed, suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency teams. The driver of the white pickup truck, a young man, was disoriented for a few seconds after the crash but is now in good health.

Residents and workers in the area, including employees of NPY channel, reported that accidents at the same intersection are frequent. The main complaint is the absence of stop signs on both roads, forcing drivers to determine right-of-way based on the capital's General Traffic Regulations.

According to articles 115 and 116 of the municipal regulations, at intersections of roads of equal category—as is the case with Del Maestro and O'Higgins, both paved streets—the right-of-way belongs to the vehicle approaching from the right. However, the lack of vertical signage makes the rule unclear for many drivers, increasing the risk of collisions.

The Municipality of Asunción has not yet commented on the possibility of installing stop signs at the location. Meanwhile, Villa Morra residents continue to live with the daily danger at an intersection that, according to them, should have been signposted long ago.
