A large truck violently collided with a car on the afternoon of Monday, May 19, near the Curupicayty company in Itá, Central Department. The impact was so strong that the car was dragged several meters before falling into a drainage ditch on the side of Ruta Acceso Sur.

Security camera footage shows the moment the car attempts to cross the road and is hit by the truck, being pushed off the road. Inside the car were four women, all elderly.

The driver, María Marilina Rojas, was taken to Guarambaré Hospital. Passengers Ramona Ozuna, 81, and Gabriela Ozuna, 69, were taken to the National Hospital of Itauguá with suspected fractures. A fourth occupant also received medical attention, but her name was not disclosed.

The truck driver, Carlos Martín Cabrera, 46, took a breathalyzer test and the result was negative. Deputy Commissioner Hugo Troche, who responded to the incident, explained that the truck was heading toward the Itauguá toll booth when, upon reaching the intersection of the Curupicayty branch, it collided with the car coming from the branch. “Due to the collision, the car was thrown into a ditch that was alongside,” Troche said.

Volunteer firefighters from Itauguá and Guarambaré provided first aid and rescued the victims. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
