Three people died when an aircraft crashed in a rural area of Água Boa, Brazil. The victims included two Paraguayans and a Brazilian citizen, Brazil’s Civil Police said.
The aircraft reportedly took off from Goiânia bound for Venezuela. Authorities said the flight operated without authorization to operate in Brazilian territory and without an approved flight plan. They also found no Brazilian registration, airworthiness certificate or other regular records for the aircraft.
The bodies were recovered burned, making identification difficult. Documents found at the site and analysis of images from the time of boarding, combined with reconstruction of the occupants’ itinerary, made it possible to locate their relatives. Family members traveled to Brazil to follow the procedures and provide material for genetic testing.
The Civil Police said a preliminary identification was made with the family’s cooperation, but stressed that definitive identification depends on forensic work and the results of DNA tests. The occupants’ names were not released out of respect for their relatives.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. So far, authorities have disclosed irregularities related to the aircraft’s operation and the condition of the victims, without reaching a conclusion about the cause of the accident.
