The municipal rule classifies unauthorized tree cutting, whether in public or private areas, as a very serious offense, and also prohibits drastic pruning, mutilation, or the use of improper tools that may damage or kill plants.
Penalties for non-compliance range from 20 to 2,700 minimum daily wages. Although a source mentioned a specific maximum amount, that figure has not been independently corroborated.
Minor pruning, such as removing branches touching roofs or encroaching on public roads, does not require authorization, provided the cut is clean and does not compromise the tree's health.
To request permission for larger interventions or removal of protected species, residents must contact the Citizen Service office of the municipality by phone or WhatsApp (0986 128 777) or appear in person at the Biodiversity Unit of the General Directorate of Environmental Management, located in the Municipal Palace.
