The third edition of Migra Móvel in 2026 kicked off on Monday at the Mangoré Cultural Center in Ciudad del Este, with a massive turnout of Brazilian citizens seeking to regularize their residency in Paraguay. Many spent the night on site to secure a spot in line.
Service sessions will run through Friday, and residency cards for completed processes will be delivered on Saturday, May 23. About 40 National Directorate of Migration staff were deployed for the operation.
Cornelio Melgarejo, regional coordinator of Migration, said 95 percent of those assisted on the first day were Brazilian nationals. "We opened at 7 a.m. to hand out tickets, respecting the queue organized by the applicants themselves, and we started processing at 8 a.m.," he explained.
Given the high demand, 300 slots were made available for today, of which 50 were reserved for people with disabilities or mobility difficulties. Even so, an equal number of people were left without access and will need to return tomorrow.
Melgarejo attributed the program's repetition — three full weeks in less than six months — to steady demand from Brazilians, which reaches a hundred daily applications at the regional office, a volume the permanent staff cannot absorb. In March, a previous Migra Móvel edition received approximately 1,400 residency applications, overwhelmingly from Brazilians.
The coordinator also previewed that the system will soon be digitized, allowing applicants to submit documentation without having to visit a Migration office.
