The Che Róga Porã housing program, launched by President Santiago Peña's administration to facilitate homeownership, already has 5,519 pre-approved or under-analysis credits, according to a balance released Tuesday. The figures were presented by the Minister of Urbanism, Housing and Habitat (MUVH), Juan Carlos Baruja, and the President of the Financial Development Agency (AFD), Stella Guillén, during a review meeting marking the initiative's second anniversary.
According to authorities, the average age of applicants is around 33, revealing significant participation by young workers seeking their first property. "More and more people see the program as a real alternative to acquire housing with affordable financing," Baruja highlighted.
Che Róga Porã operates through credits granted by the financial system, backed by the AFD, which acts as a second-tier public bank. The goal is to offer more advantageous conditions in rates, terms, and amounts for middle-income families and formal workers. Beyond the social impact, the program also boosts the construction sector, one of the largest job creators and drivers of Paraguay's economy.
The government maintains that the housing policy is part of President Peña's measures to reduce the historic housing deficit and strengthen the real estate market. The meeting between Baruja and Guillén served to align next steps and monitor demand, which remains high.
