The internal elections on June 7 in Paraguay will not be limited to choosing candidates for municipal mayors and councilors. Ten political parties will also renew their presidents, executive boards, and other internal authorities, most with a single slate.
The Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), the main opposition group, leads the list with seven candidates for party presidency: Marlene Orué (List 1), Alcides Riveros (List 3), Ever Villalba (List 9), Alfredo Jaeglli (List 13), Herminio Ruíz Díaz “Dr. Sevoí” (List 21), Abel Villalba (List 45), and Dionisio Amarilla (List 100). More than 1.5 million members are eligible to vote. The winner will have the responsibility of leading the party in the municipal elections of October 4, resolving the internal financial crisis, defining the destination of the electoral contribution and subsidy, and negotiating alliances for the 2028 general elections.
The National Encounter Party (PEN) will also elect its next president in an internal contest. The party was shaken by the resignation of Fernando Camacho after the “VIP Invasion” case and by the departures of former senator Kattya González and deputy Raúl Benítez. The candidates for the PEN presidency are Gloria Portillo (List 3) and Derlis Antonio Enciso Cardozo (List 7).
Among the parties that will renew authorities with a single slate, the National Crusade Party stands out, seeking to maintain its position as the third political force. Paraguayo Cubas is again running for party presidency, and Senator Lucía Mendoza for vice presidency.
The Beloved Fatherland Party (PPQ) will formalize the renewal of its authorities. Former senator Stephan Rasmussen is running for reelection as president; the mayor of Encarnación, Luis Yd, will assume the first vice presidency; and deputy Rocío Vallejo, the second vice presidency.
The Citizen Participation Party, led by Senator Esperanza Martínez, also renews authorities with a single slate: Gustavo Javier Rodríguez Espínola will be president and Senator Martínez, vice president.
The Febrerista Revolutionary Party (PRF) will confirm Manuel Doldan del Puerto as president. The Christian Democratic Party (PDC) will elect Hugo López as president, Eduardo Pérez Avid as first vice president, and Filemón Delvalle Ríos as second vice president. The Let's Do Party will choose Eduardo Manuel Viedma Paoli as president. The Party of the A, whose perennial president is Oti Sánchez, will renew its authorities with a single slate headed by Sánchez. Finally, the Independent Patriots Party will elect Carlos Valenzuela as president and Federico Fernández López as vice president.
